Description:

The West Cork brown building & walling stone available from www.wesellstone.com is a beautiful chocolate brown coloured sandstone found along the coastal villages of Glandore, Union Hall, Schull & Skibereen in West Cork, Ireland. The stone is prepared just as the old masons dressed it over the last few centuries! In the walls , there is a combination of "Dressed Stone" used in the piers of entrances, it is also used as corner stones on the face of buildings, these are sometimes called " Quoin Stones " and semi dressed stones, semi dressed stones are used in the main walls of entrances and in between the corner stones on the facade of buildings. We also supply the necessary amount of one inch thick stone, sometimes called " shims " in West Cork or otherwise known as levellers. The levellers are essential for building traditional dry stone walling, please check out our good friend , Ken Currans , Dry Stone Wall Association of Irelands website www.dswaireland.ning.com or Pat McAfees excellent book " Irish Stone Walls" for more information on dry stone walling etc. The West Cork Brown Building Stone is dressed with tungsten tipped chisels to 5 inches or 125mm deep. The length is always twice the height. The stone is packed in bulk bags. There is 6 layers stacked neatly in the bag of 0.5m2, hence 3m2 per bulk bag. For calculations, subtract 10% for masonry, hence a wall with 27m2 will require approx. 10 bags ( 3m2 - 10% = 2.7m2 per bulk bag ). Our best rate per bulk bag is approximately €189 ex vat @ 23%.
